An electron beam generator. An electron beam is produced by emitting electrons from the cathode and by accelerating the electrons towards the anode.
The electron beam is accelerated up to a designated energy. Depending on the mechanism of the emission of electrons, there are three types of electron guns; 1) thermionic-emission gun, 2) field-emission electron gun (FEG) and 3) Schottky-emission electron gun.
