The crossover means the real electron source or its size of the thermionic-emission gun.
The electron beam (probe) emitted from the cathode of the tungsten filament of the thermionic-emission gun travels towards the anode. As shown in Figure, the electron beam is narrowed by a bias voltage applied to the electrode called "Wehnelt". Here, the smallest point of the probe is termed the crossover. The size of the crossover is 15 to 20 μm in diameter.
