Release Date: 2024/10/28

A study conducted by the University of Tokyo using JEOL's advanced scanning transmission electron microscope MARS has been published in "Nature Communications".
In this study, the electric field distribution across the grain boundaries inside the solid electrolyte of a fuel cell is directly observed by using the advanced scanning transmission electron microscope MARS(Magnetic-field-free Atomic Resolution STEM).The observation clearly reveals the existence of space charge layers across the grain boundaries.
The results are expected to lead to the establishment of guidelines for improving the performance of battery materials.
