On May 30, 2007, Pohang University of Science and Technology, one of the major schools in Korea, celebrated the opening of its new institute, National Center for Nanomaterials and Technology (NCNT), with Roh Moo-hyun, the President of Korea, among the distinguished guests.
The inauguration was attended by representatives from JEOL, including senior officials: Mr. Eto, Chairman and CEO of JEOL Ltd., Mr. Ishida, General Director of JEOL Ltd., Mr. C. S. Kim, General Director of JEOL Korea Ltd, and Mr. Nanba, President of JEOL Korea Ltd.
The NCNT was established in order to develop next generation nanomaterials and their analytical techniques in Korea, nurture venture companies, and create new businesses. The center houses JEOL’s JEM-2200FS with Omega filter and Cs corrector, JEM-2100F with STEM CS, and JSM-7401F.
The center is expected to contribute greatly to accelerating the advancement of Korean high technologies through a number of joint projects with Korean state-of-the-art institutes, researchers, and private corporations such as POSCO, the leading steel manufacturer in the nation.

Dr. Harada, President and COO of JEOL Ltd., joined the ceremony last year for blessing the site of the NCNT, and took part in the ground breaking.
