FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 25, 2011:  The JEOL Group expresses its deepest condolences to the victims of the March 11, 2011 earthquake and extends its profound sympathy and heartfelt concern to the many individuals and families suffering from the effects of the disaster.

Immediately following the earthquake, the JEOL Group established the company’s Emergency Headquarters for Disaster Control, headed by President Gon-Emon Kurihara, to coordinate information and our response to matters of employee safety and the status of our operations.

Specific information regarding the impact of the disaster on the JEOL Group and our current operational status is provided below.

1.       Employee Safety

The JEOL Group is pleased to report that all employees are safe and unharmed.

2.       Facilities and Operations

The JEOL Ltd. Akishima, Tokyo, headquarters and production facility experienced no damage. The Sendai branch sales office is not damaged. However, it is impacted by the logistical disruptions in that area resulting from the disaster. All of our other local branch offices in Japan were unharmed and are operational. Yamagata Creative Co., Ltd. (YCC), our manufacturing subsidiary located in Tendou-shi Yamagata, which manufactures microscopes and medical systems, suffered only minor damage. It resumed operations on March 14th.

3.       Impact of Planned Rolling Blackouts

The Tokyo area continues to experience planned rolling blackouts. We anticipate that the blackouts may cause disruptions in some business and manufacturing operations as well as with communications.

4.       Impact on Our Customers

To date we have not suffered any significant impact on our ability to supply and support our customers as a result of the disaster. However, we continue to monitor our supply chain for potential disruptions and will keep our customers apprised of any changes in our operational status.

5.       Impact on Business Performance

We are continuing to evaluate the impact of the disaster on the business performance of all JEOL Group companies. We will announce any findings immediately if we believe that there will be an important change to our forecast.

The JEOL Group expresses its deepest gratitude to our many friends and colleagues around the world who have expressed their concern for our employees and the citizens of Japan.
